"There are some books that refuse to be written. They stand their ground year after year and will not be persuaded. It isn't because the book is not there and worth being written -- it is only because the right form of the story does not present itself. There is only one right form for a story and if you fail to find that form the story will not tell itself."

—Mark Twain (1835-1910) [Samuel Langhorne Clemens] American author, humorist

Prunes and Rupe Children's Book

Prunes and Rupe by Lydia Griffin and illustrated by Judith Hunt

Prunes and RupeNow on Sale at all Park County Public Libraries.

"Prospector Rupert M. Sherwood and his burro, Prunes, are best friends.  They go together like salt and pepper.  When Rupe asks his neighbors to help look after Prunes, an unlikely friendship blossoms between the people of the small town and the remarkable prune-colored burro.
"Based on true events, Prunes and Rupe is a story of friendship, love, and flapjacks.  Today, the stone monument erected in memory of Prunes in 1933 still stands in the center of Fairplay, Colorado, an enduring reminder of the faithful burro."

This lovely children's book is being sold at all of our libraries for $16.00.  A large portion of the proceeds goes to each library's Friends of the Library group.

The illustrator has donated to the libraries the picture shown above.  We will have prints available to the public soon with all of the proceeds going to the Friends of the Library groups.  2008 calendars with this print are available through the Friends of the Guffey Library for $5.00.
